Is Hetzner still the cheapest VPS?

Not any more for 16 GB. On 3 October 2026 Hetzner's CPX42 (16 GB) cost €69.99/month, while Netcup's VPS 2000 (16 GB) cost €22.62 on a 12-month term. Hetzner is still handy for short tests because it bills by the hour.

How much RAM do I need to run AI coding agents like Claude Code?

Each coding agent process uses roughly 100–250 MB on its own. The RAM goes to what agents start: dev servers, builds and headless browsers. As a rule of thumb, 8 GB runs 2–4 agents, 16 GB runs 6–10 with dev servers, and 32 GB is for many agents each running a browser.

Shared or dedicated vCPU?

Shared vCPUs are fine for agents, websites and side projects, which spend most of their time waiting. Pick dedicated cores or a dedicated server if you run long builds, heavy data jobs or anything where steady CPU speed matters.

Does the server location matter?

For your website visitors, use a CDN and location barely matters. For your own SSH sessions, pick the region closest to you. Netcup charges €3.90 to choose a specific city; 'No preference Europe' is free.

Why is Contabo rated higher on Trustpilot than Hetzner?
